Hi, I'm Allen Toole, Founder Quartus Investments. I began my stock and options trading journey in 2005. Below are details from one of my accounts. I initially built up this account with contributions totaling about $7,700. After rolling over a 401k account from an employer, approximately $30,400, along with appreciation, the balance increased to roughly $44,000 as of October 2017.
Since 2013, my primary strategy has been Buy & Hold. This method facilitated significant growth up until January 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cash generated from Covered Calls and Vertical spreads was reinvested to bolster existing positions or establish new ones, further enhancing the Buy & Hold strategy. By December 2021, the account had peaked at $209,000—thanks to the combined power of Buy & Hold and Covered Calls.
This journey highlights the effectiveness of blending a conservative Buy & Hold approach with a basic options Covered Call strategy, aiming for a consistent return of 1 to 2 percent per Covered Call.
Covered Calls offer the potential to extract gains of 1 to 2 percent over time, mitigating downside risk.
